Roots and wings...

It's happening again...moms and dads across the country are sending their "not so little anymore" sons and daughters off to the great big world of adulting. Some head to jobs, some head to school, some to serve our country.

To the families out there who are making the transition to this "something new," I wish you the very best and send you my love and support.

To the young adults who are making this transition to the world of big decisions, unknowns and LIFE, I send you my best wishes.

This note was specifically written for my youngest bonus daughter, who is taking that leap as well. Her new adventure begins soon and there's nothing scarier than facing something which you've had zero previous experience with. But, there's also nothing more exciting...to her, to you, I say, embrace it. Leap. Love every minute of this thing we call life. Because time passes anyway and you may as well be enjoying it.

Here's to you, Little One...

It takes a brave person to say “I don’t know.”

It takes someone who is strong enough to look at the weather and say, “I don’t need to brave the storm. I am the storm.”

In a crowd of people going right, it takes an independent person to turn around and go left.

The little girl who once walked away, blazing a trail at the rodeo, or the park, or in the yard is now the big girl who is ready to blaze another. And once again, she is going her own way.

It is easy to compare yourself to those who came before. But don’t. You are uniquely you and that is the first rule…maintain that. “Be you. Always.”

You are a musician with an unwritten song…

You are an artist with a blank canvas…

You are an author with an empty page…

Those are not signs of failure. Those are signs of opportunity, potential, success and dreams.

Follow your “I don’t know” through the possibilities it leads you to. Let it take you places a firm decision wouldn’t.

My message to you will be the same. It comes from the people I love the most. And I share it with those who need it as much as I did.

From my Dad – Be you. Always.

From my Mom- When shit happens, go run. Walk or sprint if you must. But go.

From your Papa – Shit happens. So let it. Life happens. Enjoy the ride and go with the flow.

From my Brother – Love your family. Stand up for what you believe in. There’s no shame in passion.

From me…Fail. And love it. Fall hard. And learn from it. Success doesn’t come from standing still. Take chances. Take a lot of them. Life will happen while you’re busy making plans. Sometimes you have to wing it.

The world is your unwritten chapter. Go. Do. Be. Write your story. When you look back, do so only to remember from where you came. We have given you your roots. It’s time now, for you to spread your wings…
