You're a daisy if you do...

Is there one line from a movie that makes you laugh or smile every time you hear it? Or that you quote frequently? What’s the line and what’s the movie? Do you remember it because of the film? Or perhaps because of the people you were with? How would you persuade someone else to see the movie?

Several lines actually. It's the first movie I remember knowing nearly all the lines to. I was quite annoying to watch it with once I had the script down. I could recite along with the actors as the movie played, or run through it in my head when I was horseback somewhere.

I think back on the first time I watched it, and I do smile and laugh a bit...

I was a freshman in college and was having trouble making friends in the degree department I had been pursuing. My roommate was very sweet but she was even more introverted (shy, I thought it was called, back then) than I am. We didn't have much to talk about. It was about this time that another dorm resident popped her head into my dorm room and introduced herself. Her name was Libby. She was outgoing and instantly easy to talk to. It didn't take long for both of us to figure out that we had quite a lot in common. We became fast friends and she introduced me to more of the people she knew on the floor as well. When her roommate moved out, I moved in and one of the first things she asked me was "Have you ever seen Tombstone?"

She nearly fell out of her chair when I said "no."

That was the first order of business. Once I had seen it, I could see why she liked it so much and we were watching it all the time. I can't confirm it, but I'm pretty sure that when we walked around reciting movie lines, we were annoying everyone we met. But I do know one thing...we were pretty dang proud of ourselves and didn't much care! We even tried to reenact the "hand shake on horseback" moment. We both nearly fell off...Woody and Amos were not real impressed with our trick riding inabilities, but it gave me and Libby something else to laugh about.

So do I have a favorite line from Tombstone? It's hard to choose, really.

The two that I still use in "normal" conversation are:

“I’m your Huckleberry.”

and

"You're a daisy if you do."

If I were to talk to a rattlesnake I suppose I might say:

“I have two guns, one for each of you.”

When cows get out of line, this one might fit:

“You called down the thunder, well now you’ve got it.”

Or,

“Tell em the law’s coming. You tell em I’m coming, and hell’s coming with me!”

If I needed to explain where Husbeast was after a good day of roping:

“He’s down by the creek, walkin’ on water.”

And if I wanted to be a bit of a twit I suppose I could say this (jokingly of course):

“Johnny, I apologize. I forgot you were there. You may go now.”

Or this,

“Maybe Poker’s just not your game, Ike. I know – let’s have a spelling contest!”

I remember the movie, in part because of the movie itself, but also because of the people I was with. When it comes on now, I think back to those times and the laughter we shared.
As far as convincing you goes, if I was nearby I would just play it. Since I'm not, I'll say it this way:
Val Kilmer, Kurt Russell, Sam Elliot (duh), Bill Paxton. Those names ought to be convincing enough.
