What am I?

Day 3 of my 31 day writing challenge...check out Day 1 here for the explanation. If I've done my job right, you'll be able to tell me what I'm talking about.

Today, use all of your senses to paint a word picture. Pick an everyday item. Describe it using five visual descriptions (what does it look like?), four tactile descriptions (how does it feel?), three audial descriptions (how does it sound?), two olfactory descriptions (how does it smell?) and one description about how it might taste. ~ AWAI

Greens and yellows. Browns and blues. Spotted here and there with black and red. White and silver always show up too. It moves from looking like a down comforter; smooth, white and soft, to looking like carpeted stairs; textured with browns and greens. If you watch closely, you'll see it come alive on the breeze, swaying north and south, east and west. It dips and climbs with time and wear and it's boundaries twist and turn, dropping off or sloping away. Blanketed in shadow it starts the day, and by evening glows, until light fades away.

Smooth, yet hard and cold in the beginning, it moves to spongy, chilled and soft. Warm, dry and feathery soon becomes crunchy, cool and wispy in a cycle that never ends.

It sits silent, so silent that it aches to listen. Yet, it can grow to a whisper, gentle at first then a roar. Sudden bursts of sound come from the life is supports and sustains. Rushing, then a trickle, bubbling with renewed life it expands.

It smells of life, fresh with hope, crisp and tangy in change. It's taste, bitter and sweet with promise of growth.
