I'll take the dirt road...

Sometimes you just have to bust out in poem form to express your feelings... it's also totally acceptable to give it some rhythm and sort of hum along as you read it. Try it...you'll see. :)

There's just something about a dirt road... Whether you've been fortunate enough to travel one once or many times, you know what I mean. There's an instant peace, a moment of relaxation and a certain joy in making a dirt road trip. Oh sure, sometimes they are way too rough or way too muddy, and sometimes you wind up with a flat. But, all in all, the dirt road is a place for letting the rest of the world go away. Here's my dirt road anthem, if you will. What's yours?

After turning off the highway, I know there are miles yet to go,

But the dusty, rumbling comfort makes me feel as though I’m home.

It’s different every season. Day by day there’s something new.

Although, there are many changes, it’s familiar, trustworthy, true.

It’s a place for deeper thinking that doesn’t come on white and yellow lines.

It holds the answers that you’re seeking, if you can learn to read the signs.

An old friend who shares the memories of good times, heartbreak, dear friends;

One who’s seen the tears you’ve cried when something fabulous ends.

It’s endless torture of excitement, of news you have to share;

And when the news is not so good, it still seems to take you there.

It’s the end and the beginning. It’s a path that leads the way.

You can keep the asphalt; I’ll take a dirt road any day.
